Troubleshooting Tips

Website Not Loading or Loading Slowly:

  • Clear your cache and cookies. Go to chrome://settings/clearBrowserData, select “Cookies and other site data” and “Cached images and files,” then click “Clear data.” Also, check your internet connection or try a different browser to isolate if it’s a Chrome-specific issue.

Chrome Crashing or Freezing:

  • Update Chrome to the latest version by going to chrome://settings/help and clicking “Relaunch” if available. If that doesn’t help, you might want to try running Chrome in Safe Mode by holding Shift while clicking “Restart” in the Chrome menu to disable extensions temporarily. If it works in Safe Mode, one of your extensions might be the issue.

Extensions Causing Problems:

  • Disable all extensions to see if the problem persists. Go to chrome://extensions/, toggle off each extension, then restart Chrome. Enable them one by one to find the problematic extension.

Search Engine Hijacked or Unwanted Toolbars:

  • Check your search engine settings at chrome://settings/searchEngines, remove any unwanted ones, and set your preferred search engine as default. Reset Chrome settings by going to chrome://settings/reset, but be aware this will reset all your settings to default.

Chrome Using Too Much Memory or CPU:

  • Close unnecessary tabs, as each tab consumes resources. Disable or remove extensions you don’t use regularly. If the problem persists, check for updates as mentioned above. Look into Chrome’s Task Manager by clicking the three dots at the top right, selecting “More tools” > “Task Manager” to see which tabs or extensions are consuming the most resources and close them accordingly.

You can now try a dedicated messaging app by Instagram called Threads and other social media giants: Facebook on Chromebook, redNOTE on Chromebook, and TikTok on Chromebook.
