Hello everyone, you can download Scratch for Chromebook and experience using an app that you can use to make just about anything you can think of from apps to games, to visual stories and animations.
Today we will highlight some reasons why we think you should go ahead and give this app a try on your ChromeOS device. I just installed it less than 2 days ago, I randomly found Scratch as a featured app by Google themselves on the Google PlayStore for Chromebooks so I said, let me see why this app is featured and boom installed it. So far so good, it is much better than I assumed it would be, it is the successor to ScratchJr, which also does work on your Chromebook and I guess it is targeted at older children compared to ScratchJr where it is more tailored to children under the age of 6, either way, both apps work great for all ages but on this post we will focus on Scratch and what it can do for you, your children and students.
Once I installed it, I called my niece over, she just turned 11 exactly 2 weeks ago and she is really into the tech stuff so I thought lets see how she likes this Scratch app that is made and maintained by MIT Media Labs, which is a research laboratory at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. They have really done a great job with children focused apps as my niece was able to create a quick game in less 4 hours of use and when I played the game, it was quite interesting and involving to say the least. So she picked up how to use this app and it’s features quiet fast. As a visual programming language, this app makes it way more interesting for children to try and you will see what I mean when you check out the screenshots or video demo.
If you’re not sure if your Chromebook is compatible with Google Play Store, you can check our list of Chromebooks that can run Android apps and games. If your device is on the list or was made after 2017, it should be able to run this app without any problems. If you decide to try it out on your device, let us know how it goes in the comments. By the way you technically don’t need the app to use Scratch, you can just visit their website https://scratch.mit.edu/ but a lot of people, including myself prefer the app interface.
